Anna CooperAnna Cooper is a large, dramatically decorated room with a lovely bay window, fireplace and floor to ceiling bookshelves. With a daybed in the window bay, this room can accommodate 3 people, with 2 in the firm queen size bed and one on the comfortable day bed in the window. Views of the McMillan Reservoir across the street and its location off the second floor sitting room make this room unique and insures quiet and seclusion for guests. Anna Julia Cooper was a teacher, a high school principal; a scholar and a college professor; and a graduate of the University of Paris with an earned doctorate. Ms. Cooper was the 4th African American woman to receive this degree. Throughout her life, she was an author, speaker, community worker, organized leader and president of an institution of Higher Education. One also must consider that she lived over half her life before women were even granted the right to vote. Ms. Cooper was clearly a woman ahead of her time. She devoted her life to the betterment of those around her. As a result, a good many of her students went on to attend Ivy League Universities. Her home sits on the corner of Second and T Street and is currently undergoing a complete renovation.
